Xiaomi to launch 'Desh Ka Smartphone' in India on November 30

November 24, 2017 0

The upcoming Xiaomi smartphone will be part of its Redmi series.

Xiaomi smartphone launch India

Xiaomi’s presence in India is widely known with the country being the company’s most favorable market. Continuing its domination, Xiaomi has recently started investing heavily in the government’s ‘Make in India’ program. As part of its efforts, Xiaomi has now announced a new Redmi smartphone launch in India. Xiaomi’s next product will be “Desh Ka Smartphone” and will launch on November 30.
Xiaomi’s teaser doesn’t mention anything but going by the India-centric theme, it’s quite possible that the smartphone will fall in the budget category. At present, 95 percent of Xiaomi’s smartphones sold in India are assembled locally. This year, Xiaomi launched two budget smartphones in India – Redmi 4A and Redmi 4. The Redmi 4A is priced at Rs 5,999 for the 16GB variant, and Rs 6,999 for the 32GB model. The Redmi 4 also comes in two storage options of 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage priced at Rs 8,999, and 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage which retails at Rs 10,999.
Xiaomi recently announced its third manufacturing unit in India which is also the company’s first non-smartphone unit. With this, Xiaomi also launched its ‘Make in India’ power bank, the Mi Power Bank 2i. Offered in two models of 10,000mAh and 20,000mAh models, the Mi Power Bank 2i is priced at Rs 799 and Rs 1,499 respectively.
Xiaomi also launched its Mi Exchange Program in India. Now you can exchange your old Xiaomi smartphone for a new one at Mi Home Stores. The exchange rate for your smartphone can be checked on Cashify’s app and website, the company Xiaomi has collaborated with for the program.
Coming to the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone, the company is tight lipped about the details. With the launch just next week, it won’t be long till we get to know what Xiaomi has in store for the Indian market. Currently, the Redmi Note 5 is doing rounds in the rumor mill. The Redmi Note 5 would succeed the Redmi Note 4 which is interestingly Xiaomi’s highest selling smartphone in India.

Umang, all-in-one e-governance app launched by PM Modi; here's how it works

November 24, 2017 0

The app is a one-stop destination for all government services from finding CBSE exam centers to posting PF queries.

Umang-app-Modi

On the sidelines of the 5th Global Conference on Cyberspace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi  took the opportunity to launch a standalone app for e-governance called Umang (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance). Developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and National e-Governance Division, the app is aimed at making it easier for citizens to connect to the government through mobile-first approach.
Umang has a range of services to offer to students, senior citizens, and farmers, by providing a single-point access to all government services. Some of the Digital India services such as Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and PayGov are also integrated into the app. The app provides over 100 services of the center and state government on one single platform.
One of the key features of the app is that it supports Aadhaar-based, and other authentication mechanisms for service access. As there are multiple services connected to the single app, the profile data of the user is saved in encrypted format. You can use Umang for all tasks related to e-governance; from utility bills, income tax filing, LPG cylinder booking, to queries for Provident Fund account or Aadhaar. Here’s how the app works.

How Umang works

Umang is available for download across app stores. On Google’s Play Store, it weighs 11MB. The app has already been garnered 500,000 downloads on the Play Store. You can also give a missed call or send an SMS to 97183-97183 to get the app download link on your number. There’s support for 10 Indian languages other than Hindi and English. In order to start using Umang, you will be required to first register yourself on the platform using your mobile number. It is advisable to use the same mobile number which has been used to link to other services such as Aadhaar. Upon authenticating your number via OTP process, you will be asked to set an MPIN to restrict unauthorized access to the app. You can further set answers to security questions.
Afterwards, you can choose to set up your profile by adding required details including Aadhaar details. The next step involves the app to link your Aadhaar details for easy access to services. However, even without completing your profile, you can navigate through the range of government services on offer. The services range from something as basic as booking a Baratghar online, complete with e-payment, to finding and downloading birth or death certificate of an individual.
To make things simpler, the ‘hub of all apps’ has categorized the services into ‘All’, ‘Central’, and ‘State’. Similar to how regular app stores show, Umang also shows trending services, top-rated services, and updated services. The app also gives you the option to connect your social media account, akin to how a lot of other apps ask for linkage.

Razer Hammerhead USB Type-C headphones launched

November 23, 2017 0

Meant to accompany the Razer Phone, they can be easily plugged into any other device that has a USB-C jack.

razer-headphone-usb-c

Last year Apple decided to get done with the headphone jack, and this year the likes of Pixel 2 duo followed course. And the two companies didn’t just make it inconvenient to listen to music on the smartphones, but they also made it expensive with the AirPods, and the Pixel Buds. While the iPhone 7 and beyond still have no option but to go for either another true wireless earphone or one that connects via the lightning port, there may be good news for other smartphones that come with a USB-C jack. Razer has released a new pair of USB-C buds called the Razer Hammerhead USB-C, which may be an option you could consider for your 3.5mm port-less phone.
Although, these headphones are made to match the Razer Phone, you can easily plug them into any other device that has a USB-C jack. The earbuds are fitted with 10-mm drivers, and acoustic chambers to deliver “deep, distortion-free bass,” according to the company.
Further, the Razer Hammerheads include an in-line remote and mic along a flat cable, which is meant to reduce the irksome tangling of the chords. They’re also magnetic, so you can snap them together when not in use. The buds come in a neon green and black color. It comes along a custom carry case and is available for $79.99 (Rs 5,200 approximately) from the Razer store, joining the Bluetooth and Lightning versions released earlier this year.
Although not an ideal comparison, with the Google Pixel Buds being wireless, but for someone who wants an earphone for their Pixel 2 smartphones, that also fits their budget, the Razer Hammerheads is an option. For perspective, it is pertinent to mention, that as opposed to the almost $80 price tag of the Razer earbuds, the Pixel Buds are priced almost double at $159 (Rs 10,000 approximately).

Elon Musk shows off Tesla’s new electric Semi truck

November 17, 2017 0

It’s a monster truck!

tesla-semi-elon-musk
What do you imagine a Tesla product to be like? When I think of it, if Tesla launches a pen, it would write on a paper, yes, but it would be a pen on steroids. It would read my mind, and basically make the future look cooler. And indeed, the Elon Musk-led company has done something on those lines. Yesterday, in an Instagram post, Musk teased what they call a Semi by Tesla, which was launched at Tesla’s Hawthorne, California facility later in the day. Now, if my introduction to this article wasn’t enough for you to understand, let me put this in simple words, it’s not a regular truck! It is the hulk of all trucks, and if I am allowed to make the comparison, it looks a little like Michael ‘Mikey’ Blumberg from the cartoon series Recess. Just look closely, you’ll see the similarity. The Tesla Semi truck, as described by The Verge, has a gigantic windshield, and the two screens on either side. It has a center-mounted seat. Apparently, the truck also has some similarities with the new Model 3, including a turn signal and gear lever, but it had a different steering wheel since it didn’t require an airbag.
Reportedly, Musk at the Hawthorne, California promised a range in the neighborhood of 500 miles for the Class 8 Heavy Duty vehicle. He also claimed that the truck has a 400 mile range in 30 minutes. Musk had also promised self-driving abilities, and Tesla says this delivers at least semi-autonomous capability.
It is clear that Tesla hopes its innovative packaging and approach will resonate with truck drivers and fleet managers who are tired of the way the vehicles have been designed for decades. However, whether Tesla can actually impact the freight truck market remains to be seen.

Bose’s noise-masking earplugs will silence snores, dog barks

November 17, 2017 0
Bose and Hush have joined hands to produce noise-masking buds.
hush-bose-sleepbuds-cover
Giving up your deep, sound sleep is not something most of us are fine with. And you shouldn’t even. A good eight hours sleep is essential for good health. However, that essential eight hours may not be so easy to achieve when you share your room with someone who snores, even if that somebody is your cuddly dog. (Oh yes, dogs can snore and how!) Turns out, there is a very easy solution for that, and Bose has it.
Bose and Hush have joined hands to produce noise-masking buds with a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, in which they have already raised nearly half-a-million dollars from a few thousand backers.
The price of the sleepbuds is $249 (Rs 16,000 approximately). The developers ran a super-early bird offer, under which the buds were available for almost half the price, $150 (Rs 9,700), but the product shows sold out at the moment. As per the fundraising website, the Bose noise-masking sleepbuds are estimated to hit the market by February 2018.
hush-bose-sleepbuds
For the ones who don’t know, these Sleepbuds were originally designed by Hush, who even showcased them at the CES 2016. The company, however, suddenly went silent after that. Now the company and the product have resurrected, after Hush was acquired by Bose.
While design-wise these sleepbuds have been significantly redesigned from what Hush unveiled, but the underlying tech apparently remained unchanged. The Bose sleepbuds block sleep disturbing sounds like snoring, barking dogs, amorous neighbors, and road traffic through isolating eartips and soothing sounds tuned to mask the noise. The Sleepbuds come with a case good for one full recharge and additional tips to find the right fit. The sleepbuds also sync up with an alarm that you can set in the Bose Sleep app.

OnePlus 5T Vs OnePlus 5: What’s different?

November 17, 2017 0

The OnePlus 5T has launched, and is an upgraded version of the OnePlus 5 that was launched only five months ago. Here’s a look at what’s different in the new smartphone.

oneplus 5t vs oneplus 5 screen 2
The OnePlus 5T has been launched, and will be priced from Rs 32,999 onwards in India. It’s an updated version of the OnePlus 5 that was launched in June this year, with small changes reminiscent of what the OnePlus 3T was to the OnePlus 3. The changes are small, but important in keeping the model relevant and up to date for buyers ahead of the festive seasons in North America, Europe and China.
However, if you’ve just bought a OnePlus 5 or are planning to get the OnePlus 5T, you’ll be wondering what the differences are between the two phones. We’ve put together the list of differences for your reading pleasure; read on to find out.

Bigger screen

While the OnePlus 5 came with a 5.5-inch full-HD AMOLED screen, the OnePlus 5T comes with a slight improvement in this department. The phone features a 6-inch full-HD+ screen with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels, which has an 18:9 aspect ratio and a larger screen-to-body ratio than that of the OnePlus 5. The screen remains an Optic AMOLED screen, though, and comes with a new color calibration mode called ‘adaptive’, which adjust the color calibration according to the ambient light and content on the screen.oneplus 5t vs oneplus 5 screen top

Fingerprint sensor is now at the back

OnePlus has typically stuck to a front fingerprint sensor for its phones, but the large 18:9 aspect ratio screen means that there’s no room left for the pill-shaped sensor at the front anymore. The solution is to move the sensor to the back of the phone, similar to what a lot of high-end smartphones have today. The sensor remains ceramic, but is now round, and placed just above the OnePlus logo in the top third of the phone. The sensor can also be used as a swipe and touch-sensitive capacitive button, to drop the notification shade or to use as a shutter button for the camera.

No more capacitive navigation keys

The reduction of non-screen space at the front of the phone also means that the capacitive navigation keys at the front have been done away with. The Android navigation keys are now on-screen by default, and can be toggled to be hidden when not in use to take full advantage of the large screen and wide aspect ratio.oneplus 5t vs oneplus 5 back

Face Recognition Unlock

Just like the Apple iPhone X, the OnePlus 5T features face recognition to unlock the phone. The phone uses 100 facial feature identity points to identify your face and unlock the phone quickly. It can be set to unlock the phone but hold at the lock screen, or directly take you to the home screen on waking the device while you look at it.

Camera

There isn’t much different in the camera on the OnePlus 5T, with only one of the three camera sensors seeing a change. The 20-megapixel zoom and depth sensor in the rear dual-camera setup now uses a Sony IMX 376K sensor. The aperture has been increased to f/1.7 from f/2.4, which will make a difference both in the quality of zoomed-in images and the phone’s portrait mode for bokeh effects.oneplus 5t vs oneplus 5 camera bump

OxygenOS 4.7

Although the OnePlus 5 is eventually expected to also get an update to OxygenOS 4.7, this is first seen on the OnePlus 5T. Additionally, both the OnePlus 5 and 5T will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in the coming months. Key changes on OxygenOS 4.7 include parallel apps, gallery map, new icon packs, swappable navigation buttons and a new-look notification shade and status bar.

OnePlus 5T launched with 6-inch full-HD+ edge-to-edge screen: Price, specifications, features, availability

November 16, 2017 0

OnePlus has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 5T, at an event in New York City. The phone will go on sale in India on November 21.

oneplus 5t screen
At a big launch event in Brooklyn, New York, OnePlus has launched its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 5T. The phone is in line with the rumors and expectations in the build-up to the launch, and features a 6-inch full-HD+ Optic AMOLED screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top, an improvement over the 16:9 ratio 5.5-inch screen on the OnePlus 5.
The OnePlus 5T is priced at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant and Rs 37,999 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant. It will go on early-access sale on November 21 at 4:30PM, and on open sale on November 28. The phone will be available in India online through oneplusstore.in and amazon.in, as well as offline through select Croma stores.
The pricing of the OnePlus 5T is the same as that of the OnePlus 5 at launch. While it was earlier expected that the phone would be priced slightly higher and the OnePlus 5 would remain on sale, it is now known that the OnePlus 5 is to be discontinued and completely replaced by the OnePlus 5T, which has maintained pricing at the same level. Additionally, the OnePlus 5T has been launched in only one color variant – midnight black.
The OnePlus 5T is very similar to the OnePlus 5 when it comes to specifications and features, with only a handful of notable differences. Apart from the larger screen, the OnePlus 5T has its fingerprint sensor at the rear, and the addition of face recognition for lock-screen security. While the phone has been launched with Android 7.1.1 out-of-the-box, the OnePlus 5T runs OxygenOS 4.7.0, which is an improvement over OxygenOS 4.5 on the OnePlus 5.
The new variant of OxygenOS brings added software features, including parallel apps, gallery map and new customizations for the home screen, icons, navigation buttons, screen calibration settings and more. The camera retains the specifications of the OnePlus 5, although the secondary 20-megapixel sensor at the rear is different to that on the OnePlus 5. The improved sensor is said to enhance the lossless zoom and portrait modes.

OnePlus 5T specifications

The OnePlus 5T does retain some key similarities to the OnePlus 5. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and comes with a 3,300mAh battery which supports the company’s Dash Charge fast charging technology. Connectivity options include dual-SIM with VoLTE support, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

“The Exynos 9 Series 9810 is Samsung’s latest flagship processor, with 3rd-generation custom CPU cores, upgraded GPU, and gigabit LTE modem with industry-first 6CA support, the company wrote in a blog post late.
It is built on 2nd-generation 10 nanometer (nm) process technology. “There was no launch event or even a press release,” said a report in Android Authority. Instead, the company revealed its new chip through acknowledging one of the 36 CES 2018 Innovation Awards the company recently won.
Samsung’s ‘Exynos 9810′ chip is the successor to its first Exynos 9 series chip — the 8895 which powers flagship devices like Galaxy S8 and Note 8. The new processor also promises peak download speeds up to 1.2 Gbps thanks to its use of 6 band LTE carrier aggregation technology, 4×4 MIMO, and 256 QAM.

AMD Ryzen Pro desktop processors launched in India, offers up to 62% performance boost

November 08, 2017 0

AMD Ryzen Pro is an 8 core and 16 thread CPU which is said to be faster than Intel's Core i7 which has 4 core and 8 thread.

AMD-Ryzen-Pro
Chipmaker AMD today officially launched its all-new Ryzen Pro range of processors in India. The desktop processors have been designed to suit the need of basic, mainstream, and power users.
Ryzen Pro range includes the Ryzen Pro 3, Ryzen Pro 5, and Ryzen Pro 7 processors that seek to compete against the Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and i7 (91W) respectively. The Ryzen Pro 7, aimed at power users, is capable of easing out the creation of premium content, premium VR content, 3D rendering and modeling, and machine learning. The Pro 5 is best suited for remote collaborations, advanced multitasking, basic content creation, and VR consumption. The Pro 3, on the other hand, is suited for casual users for office productivity, internet browsing, and content consumption.
OEMs such as Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Acer already have the processors up and running in some of their latest hardware. The AMD Ryzen Pro product stack includes the Dell Optiplex 5055 Tower + SFF, HP EliteDesk 705 G3 Tower + SFF, Lenovo Thincentre M715 Tower + SFF, and Acer Veriton M200 B350 Tower + SFF.
AMD is pitching the new Ryzen Pro range as the one focused on power, security, and reliability. The Ryzen Pro processor is said to be the first-ever 8-core, 16-thread CPU for commercial grade PCs. AMD says that the Ryzen 7 Pro 1700 processor offers up to 62 percent more multi-threaded performance than the competing solutions. This basically means that the ‘Zen’ architecture of the new processors allows a computing device to run multiple processes or threads through each core simultaneously, and supported with the Windows 10 OS. In terms of security, the AMD Ryzen Pro processors have built-in AES 128-bit encryption engine, along with GuardMI technology support. The added support is said to offer protection against emerging threats in workplaces.
It is worth mentioning that the Ryzen Pro range made its debut globally in September, and today’s launch marks its debut in India. Vinay Sinha, Director, Enterp[rise Business, Asia Pacific and Japan, AMD, talked about the company’s footprint in the Indian market. All top OEMs in India offer AMD systems as the company secured about 40 percent of the market share in Q3, 2017. These OEMs are providing AMD-powered systems to some of the top banks in India, including HDFC, ICICI, along with LIC, largest Indian corporates such as HCL, and government e-markets or GeM including Aadhaar and CRPF.
The newest processors mark the re-entry of AMD in the market where it “needs competition,” as John Hampton Director, WW Commercial Client Business Development, Advanced Micro Devices Inc said. At present, Intel is the dominant player in the desktop processor market and AMD aspires to bring products which are not only competitive in terms of the technology but also in terms of pricing. Going forward, AMD is set to announce its Ryzen Pro mobile processor which will offer up to 10 GPU core power with a multi-threaded performance for maximum output and productivity.
