Twitter launched two new initiatives in India today. One of those isn’t something new and is something Twitter has been occasionally doing. Twitter has a special emoji dedicated for the anniversary for the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak. Twitter has also launched the Video Website Card for advertisers with Amazon India, Goibibo, LG, and Motorola.
Starting with the special emoji, it will go live tomorrow from 9:00AM and will be available throughout the day. The emoji is designed on the basis of the symbol, ‘Ik Onkar’ which represents the One Supreme Reality in Sikhism. There are various hastags you can use in both Punjabi and English languages. These include #à©´, #ਧੰਨਗੁਰੂਨਾਨਕ, #ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ, #ਗੁਰੂਨਾਨਕ, #IkOnkar, #GuruNanakJayanti, #GuruNanak, #Gurpurab, #Gurupurab, #HappyGurpurab or #HappyGurupurab.
This is the first emoji introduced by Twitter to celebrated Guru Nanak Jayanti. However, in the past, Twitter has had dedicated emoji for special occasions in India including Independence Day, Republic Day, the International Day of Yoga, Ganesh Chathurti, Ambedkar Jayanti and Diwali.
Coming to the Video Website Card, it acts as a platform to advertise a brand’s product. The Video Website Card comes with an auto-playing video, a customizable headline, and a destination URL that is paired with a large tap target. Through the Video Website Card, advertisers can figure out their objectives by seeing the video views, and website clicks.
Twitter has already collaborated with different brands in India that have used the Video Website Card for their products. Motorola has used the Video Website Card for their smartphones, with the Moto G5s Plus and Moto E4 Plus. Amazon India created Twitter’s Video Website Card for the recently launched Fire TV Stick in India. LG, on the other hand promoted their new OLED TV with the Video Website Card. Lastly, Goibibo also marketed their offers partnering with HDFC bank through the Video Website Card.
