We are all just back from the long Diwali weekend, and how many of you can honestly say you aren’t missing the long week of festivities. I really am, and would give anything to go back to it. While I can’t do that realistically, an astronaut from ASI was kind of making up for the Diwali withdrawals, which is essentially a picture of India on Diwali from the space. Or so you think!
For some years now, there is one picture that gets circulated every year on Diwali, claiming that it is from NASA. But it has been a while that people have been seeing the same old picture everytime, and they are naturally wise to it by now. However, this year, Paolo Nespoli, 60-year-old Italian astronaut, has shared a photo of India, “taken from the space”. On October 19, which is the day of Diwali, he shared the image on social media, along with his wishes for the festival. Many people thanked him for the image and for his wishes. But the party was pooped when some started to claim that the picture is actually old.
Twitter user @SumitSun14 shared a link from imgur, according to which the picture was actually taken on September 29, 2017.

Since being shared online, the picture has close to 8,500 likes and over 5,000 retweets. Many on the internet thanked him from sharing the picture and for his wishes. Although, when some users on Twitter checked with SM Hoax Slayer if the picture was genuine, he raised a green flag.
Since we are talking about hoax pictures, let us break your heart about that Golden Temple picture lit up with sky lanterns. Photoshopped!

Sorry! But, Happy Diwali to you all!
