If you are an iPhone 6s or newer user, you must have noticed that the 3D App Switcher gesture vanished with iOS 11 update. I did too, and it irked me quite a bit, to be honest. Though I found a couple of new features in the upgraded OS to like, I couldn’t understand why the App Switcher was needed to be removed. However, in a very fortunate recent update, Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi has revealed that the 3D Touch gesture will apparently return in a future update to iOS 11.
According to MacRumor, Apple had to “temporarily drop support” for the gesture due to an unidentified “technical constraint”. To a user’s query about the disappearing of the gesture
Apple iPhone 6s and above running on iOS 9 or iOS 10 had the 3D App Switcher gesture, which allowed users to view and switch between the recently opened apps. They could do that my long pressing on the edge of the screen. The App Switcher worked as a great alternative to double tapping the home button to switch between apps.
Federighi has been needing to bust a lot of myths around iOS 11, and the Face IDtech of the iPhone X. One of which was the biggest question everyone was asking, and that was if the iPhone X’s Face ID work even when you are wearing sunglasses. “Most sunglasses let through enough IR light that Face ID can see your eyes even when the glasses appear to be opaque.” he explained. While Apple’s Face ID coverage has specifically said the feature works with hats, scarves, beards, glasses, makeup, and other items that might obscure the face, sunglasses were not specifically mentioned.
