Android O could indeed be called ‘Oreo’

Google is likely to dip Android in Oreo today.

After Android O being in beta for months now, the eighth iteration of Android is said to go public today. Among fans, the Android O has been long-rumored to be called Oreo, and today a new leak seem to lay new grounds to it. The latest version of Android is said to be officially announced by Google on August 21, and it looks like the company may perhaps christen Android O as Oreo.
According to the latest image leaked by Evan Blassit shows the Android bug mascot dipped in white, with a green robe and an Oreo cookie on its chest. While Blass is noted as a reliable source of official leaks, we still recommend that the piece of information be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. The image does not look anything like what Google could officially use for Android O, but is certainly in line with previous rumors of it being called the Android Oreo.
Last week, Blass had tweeted another image showing an Oreo eclipsing Sun. This suggested that Google is looking at August 21 as the day to launch Android O. The latest Android OS version is expected to be revealed at an event in New York City at 2:40 PM ET (12:10 AM IST). Simultaneously, on August 21 the entire contiguous region of the US will witness one of the rarest celestial movement, a solar eclipse after around 38 years.
The Android O or 8.0 has also been rumored to be called Android Oatmeal, but that faded while the name Oreo caught up with everyone. Some reports even suggest it being named Android Octopus, but that will kill the tradition of naming the OS after desserts. Whatever be the case, Google will be dropping an official word on the Android O in a few hours from now that is certain to clear the air.
