Last week, Xiaomi announced that it will gradually start rolling out a stable version of MIUI 9 for its smartphones. Now, Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9 update for the Redmi Note 4 and the Mi Max 2. To recall, Xiaomi had announced MIUI 9 alongside the Mi 5X in July. In India, Redmi Y1 was the first smartphone to run MIUI 9 out-of-the-box.
The stable version of the MIUI 9 update is being rolled out in phases via OTA, and users can check their device’s settings for the update. However, the OTA update might take some time to reach you as Xiaomi will be testing this update with a bunch of users first. Xiaomi has already said that the MIUI 9 update will be restricted to only a few devices.
Those of you already running MIUI 9 Beta ROM can simply check for the Global ROM update package from the updater app on your Mi smartphone and download the latest update package available to you. On the other hand, if the update is not showing up in your notification panel then you can search for ‘Updater app’ from the list then tap ‘Update’ and reboot to complete the installation.

MIUI 9 features a split-screen mode allowing people to use two apps side-by-side. With dynamic resource allocation feature, frequently used apps will be given priority for a smoother experience. MIUI 9 also has a universal search feature that can differentiate images based on the keyword like location, expression, events and more. MIUI 9 also comes with a smart assistant to make things easier for you. Xiaomi says the assistant is smart enough to ‘find anything and everything’ — be it schedules, notes, and more. Lastly, there is also a smart app launcher that can launch an app based on on-screen contents. 
Xiaomi is currently the second-largest smartphone brand in India, and it is inching closer to Samsung as the smartphone leader. According to Canalys recent report, Xiaomi shipped 4.8 million units during the second quarter and its CEO Lei Jun confirmed that its India revenues were up 328 percent during the first six months of 2017.
