The year could not get any better for Xiaomi. The company sold record phonesduring the festive season last month, became one of the leading manufacturers in the country, and today, has climbed to the top spot in the list of smartphone vendors this quarter.
As per the latest IDC Quarterly Smartphone Tracker, Q3 2017, Xiaomi is the number one smartphone vendor in India with a market share of 23.5 percent. Three out of top five smartphones sold in the country were Xiaomi smartphones in the said quarter. The Chinese manufacturer shipped 9.2 million smartphones in the quarter and stood at par with Samsung, which also holds a market share of 23.5 percent.

The company has also become the fastest growing smartphone brand in the country with a growth rate of nearly 300 percent year-on-year. Xiaomi entered the Indian smartphone market in 2014 and in its fairly recent existence has proven how the strategy of balancing price and features can help a foreign company attain tremendous popularity.
In the given quarter, three out of the top five smartphones included the Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4, and Redmi 4A. What is particularly interesting is that the Redmi Note 4 was launched last year and yet it continues to enjoy popularity of the Indian masses as the company shipped an astounding 4 million units of the smartphone in Q3, 2017. With a battery capacity of 4,100mAh and Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, the smartphone is available at a starting price of Rs 9,999.
The IDC data further shows that Xiaomi’s offline strategy through Large Format Retailer partners, Mi Preferred Partner stores and Mi Homes led to doubling of its offline sales in Q3. In the online segment, Xiaomi acquired 51 percent market share, again, attributed to the success of the top three phones by the company.
“Within three years of our entry into the Indian market, we have been able to achieve a never-seen-before feat of market dominance.
