Amazon‘s Prime Video service, which falls under its Prime membership benefits, currently costs Rs 999 per year. As part of the membership, not only you get access to exclusive shopping deals on the portal but also to original Amazon shows and popular movies. Some media reports indicated that the company was now mulling a free, ad-based model to boost viewership. However, Amazon has denied working on such a model fair and square.
As of now, the Amazon Prime Video service does not show annoying ads in between content, and hence costs a premium for access. Now, according to some reports, those who wanted to access Amazon movies and TV shows could do so without paying for the subscription. Amazon has officially denied these reports. “We have no plans to create a free, ad-supported version of Prime Video,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement to AppleInsider.
A report on AdAge stated that the e-commerce company was in talks with networks, movie studios, and other media outfits about programming, which would be free but ad-supported.
Sources also stated that Amazon could share both audience data and ad revenue, and link content payments to the number of hours spent watching. Now that the company has officially denied these reports, you will still be required to pay to binge-watch Amazon’s series.
Meanwhile, Amazon recently made a fresh investment of Rs 130 crore in its logistics unit Amazon Transportation Services (ATS) in India as per a filing with the Registrar of Companies. It is believed that the company might be gearing up for drone deliveries in India, an area which is yet to get the green signal from authorities. It is worth pointing that the investment comes in the wake of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) inviting public comments on regulations governing the commercial use of drones.
