Sharp has launched a new smartphone called the Aquos R Compact in Japan. The smartphone will be available in Amethyst Purple, Diamond Yellow, Tourmaline Black, and Moon White color options starting late December. Priced at $372 (Rs 24,200 approximately), the smartphone bears a striking similarity to Apple‘s iPhone X.
Sharp had already launched its Aquos S2 with bezel-less display keeping up with the current market trend, but with the new Aquos R Compact, it has followed the Apple iPhone X design with a small circle on the top for the selfie camera. At the bottom of the front panel is the physical home button with the fingerprint sensor integrated into it. The smartphone is made of aluminum, and comes pre-loaded with the company’s own AI assistant Emop.

Sharp Aquos R Compact specifications, features

In terms of specifications, the Aquos R Compact features a 4.9-inch full HD+ display. The company also claims to be the first phone in the industry to launch with a display boasting 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM. There is also 32GB internal storage with an option to expand up to 256GB storage via microSD card. On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 16.4-megapixel shooter with LED flash, hybrid AF and PDAF. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video chats.
On the connectivity front, the phone comes with dual-SIM support, 4G/LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Type-C USB port and Bluetooth 5.0. Apart from that, the smartphone also comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
The device houses a 2,500mAh battery with support for Quick Charging 3.0. On the software front, the smartphone runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. There are high chances that the smartphone won’t hit the Indian shelves. But if you are looking for a smartphone with edge-to-edge display, options for you include the Micromax Canvas Infinity and going up to Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the ultra premium price segment.
