The very recent shooting that took place on the Route 91 Harvest country music festival left around 59 people dead with at least 527 injured. During the course of the tragic event, a woman is believed to have been saved by her Apple iPhone 7 Plus Rose Gold. As reported by KLAS, the woman showed her iPhone to the cab driver on returning from the venue, and the bullet mark is quite evident.
At the rear panel of the iPhone just below the branding, the damage is noticeable with the outer casing blown open. The innards of the iPhone are also damaged but it appears that the bullet did not go through the iPhone. The bullet isn’t visible and the front panel isn’t visible so much cannot be determined from this image. However, the rest of the rear chassis appears fine and untouched. It is claimed that the Apple iPhone 7 Plus saved the woman from being hit by a bullet but isn’t clear how.
The identity of the woman isn’t revealed, and neither details on how she was holding her iPhone. Nevertheless, the woman was safe and survived the mass shooting. The suspect, a 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, is believed to have shot himself at Mandalay Bay hotel and casino. Police recovered 17 guns from his hotel room, and 18 more firearms from his Mesquite, Nevada home. With no ties with terrorist groups discovered yet, Paddock’s motive for the shooting is still being investigated on. 
While smartphones are not built for situations like these, there have been some surprising cases. Last year, a a man said that a Nokia feature phone saved his life in Afghanistan from a bullet. The phone was completely damaged with the bullet stuck in the phone. As for iPhones, something different but on a similar line happened to Michael Guntrum who recovered his iPhone 4 after a year of being trapped in ice. Although the iPhone 4 was slightly damaged on the sides, it still looked decent enough with the display intact.
