YouTube brings in built chat and video sharing features for smartphone app only.
YouTube has added an integrated messaging feature to its mobile app. The feature let users share videos with their friends, and initiate a private chat thread inside the app itself. The in-app chat works similar to how you use other messaging apps to share and discuss videos with friends.
Google started testing the in-app messaging feature on iOS and Android, and has made it available in Canada. The feature will soon start rolling out in global markets. The feature can be accessed right from the share button, which will let you select one or more contacts from your phone’s native contacts list. While you can also choose the conventional method of sharing a direct link to the video. You can also add contacts and send SMS invite link to other friends, which will subsequently increase app install number for YouTube.
YouTube has been experimenting with the idea since last year, and it is very similar to the native direct messaging feature available on Instagram. The in-app feature on YouTube app will keep users hooked to the platform, as they won’t have to switch to other apps for sharing videos. Also, YouTube seems to encourage creators community on its platform with the new-feature available globally.
