Xiaomi Redmi 4A with 3GB RAM launched at Rs 6,999, to go on sale from August 31

One of Xiaomi's popular smartphones just got a bump in RAM.

Xiaomi’s most affordable smartphone – Redmi 4A - has been given a memory boost. The company launched the 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage model of the popular smartphone today. The new variant is priced the same as the Redmi 4 at Rs 6,999, which is Rs 1,000 more than the base model with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The new model of the Xiaomi Redmi 4A will be available on Mi.com, Flipkart, Amazon India, Paytm, and Tata CliQ starting August 31. Interestingly, the base model of the smartphone went up for another round of sale today. Other than the bump in storage and memory, the specifications of the new Redmi 4A remain the same.

One of the tested performers in the affordable category, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A features a 5-inch HD (720p) IPS display and is powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 425 quad-core chipset, clubbed with Adreno 308 GPU. With today’s launch, there’s a choice of 2GB/3GB of RAM with 16GB/32GB of internal storage. There is also an option to further expand the storage via microSD card.

On the photography front, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel shooter with f/2.2 aperture. It is fueled by a 3,120mAh battery. On the software front, the Redmi 4A runs Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8. Connectivity options include dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

On the other hand, at the same price, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 features an all-metal body and a fingerprint sensor – which the Redmi 4A lacks. It features a 5-inch HD (720p) IPS display with 2.5D curved glass protection. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core 1.4GHz chipset paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage.

It is further equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera, along with a 5-megapixel front camera. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based on MIUI 8.It is fueled by a 4,100mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE with VoLTE support, fingerprint scanner, dual SIM card slot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB.
