Google’s launched the long awaited Android Wear 2.0 earlier this year along with the LG Watch Style and Watch Sport. Following its eight month release, Android Wear page disappeared from Google Store’s home page. The LG Watch Style and Watch Sport were also marked “no longer available”. Google’s Hoi Lam has now announced on Google+ (via Android Police) that Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches can receive updates via the app on Play Store.
Android Wear app is available on Google Play Store and through this some important updates will be rolled out. This would eliminate the need to release an OS upgrade for any kind of update. Lam’s post reads, “With Android Wear 2.0, new features can be delivered through the Play Store, when the Android Wear app on your watch is updated. The aim is to publish more timely improvements between OTAs.”

Prior to the announcement Google had already released a few upgrades with last week’s update for Android Wear. These upgrades include third-party chat app support in Contacts, and reducing accidental entry into the watch face picker. Google has also improved Play Store discover ability for new users. Like all upgrades, this one also brings minor features and bug fixes. Google assures more upgrades to be rolled out in the coming months. 
Recently, it was discovered that Android Oreo also has some changes for Android Wear. The latest Android Oreo allows Priority Notifications even when smartwatches are on Battery Saver mode. Some alerts like the alarm, and the timer will work with Android Oreo. Users can also set priority Hangout notifications which will be visible on the watch face but the device will not buzz. This new feature will however be available with the upcoming Android Wear OS based on Android Oreo.
