If you do not like your Google Assistant responding to you in a female voice, the company is gradually rolling out an option that allows you to choose a male voice to answer your queries.
Google Assistant is the voice and text-based digital assistant that is capable of handling searches, suggesting places to dine at, helping you navigate, and answer daily queries among other things. According to 9To5Google, you can now choose between female and male voice. The female voice is referred as Voice I, while the male voice is referred as Voice II.
If you have an eligible Android device for the Google Assistant, you need to first ensure that both the Google and Home apps are up to date. Now, in order to set the preferred voice, launch the Home app and tap on Menu. Under the Google Assistant tab, tap on More Settings. Under Account, tap on Preferences. Now select Assistant Voice. It is here that you will find the list of available voice, namely Voice I and Voice II. You can also listen to the preview of the voice by tapping on the blue speaker icon. Whichever voice you choose, it will become the default for all paired devices which have Assistant built-in.
We tried to set the preference on compatible Android smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S8, however, by far there’s been no luck. If you also tried doing the same and were unsuccessful, here’s the reason. In India, the update is yet to be rolled out, even compatible devices. As for the Google Home, the voice-powered smart speaker, the product is yet to debut in India and hence, this particular feature can’t be verified as well. Meanwhile, Google is set to launch a new line of hardware tonight, including the second-generation Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, new Pixelbook, and a mini version of the Google Home speaker. The event kick-starts at 9:30PM (IST), and will also be live-streamed.
