There's a way to get the newest Android 8.0 Oreo OS on the older OnePlus One smartphone.
If you own a OnePlus One smartphone, which was launched in 2014, you won’t get the official Android 8.0 Oreo update. However, you can try your hands at the experimental build of the software to get the taste of the new wine in the old bottle.
As it is the unofficial build, it is worth noting that it will not be stable and might also lead to loss of data. So, if you do plan to load the experimental Android 8.0 Oreo based on AOSP by XDA’s Agent_Fabulous, then you should not install it on your primary device. Also, you will need a OnePlus One with root access.
In the guide, the developer lays down the steps to install the build. The first and foremost thing is to back up all the data on your device on which you want to download the experimental build. You will be also required to wipe /system, /data, and cache. Using the download link, you can flash the ROM and GApps. Upon rebooting, the build has been verified to make functionalities such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RIL, audio and video playback, and NFC work. While other features such as the camera and camcorder have been disabled.
It is worth mentioning that the build is still in its experimental stage and even the developer is currently exploring it to figure out a stable functioning. You can check the guide where additional FAQs have been answered by Agent_Fabulous.
