Xiaomi is all set to launch its next budget smartphone in China on August 21. The Redmi 5A has been subject to quite a few leaks and rumors in the run up to the launch, and last week it got a clearance from TENAA as well. The latest leak seen online now reveals a couple of key details about the upcoming smartphone, including the presence of a soft flash along side the selfie camera.
First spotted by GizmoChina, the Redmi Note 5A will be Xiaomi’s first smartphone to come with a front flash. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun even shared a picture of the Note 5A shot while the soft flash was on. According to the image, the front flash will be placed on the top right-hand side of the device along with the front camera.
Thanks to TENAA listing we know that the Redmi Note 5A will sports a metal unibody. At the back, there will be a single rear camera with an LED flash placed at the top left corner. The Xiaomi logo is placed at the bottom end with antenna lines running at the top and bottom of the smartphone. The power and volume rocker buttons are visible on the right side. The upcoming Redmi Note 5A is expected to come in two variants – one featuring a fingerprint sensor at the back, while the other will launch without one.

It is expected to sport a 5.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1,280×720 pixels. We can expect the smartphone to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz, and paired with 2GB of RAM. There will also be 16GB of internal storage. For photography, the smartphone is expected to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. It is said to be armed with a 3,000mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphone is likely to run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 on top, which is surprising considering Xiaomi has recently launched MIUI 9.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is expected to be launched alongside the Redmi Note 5 series. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 series will follow the Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 4. Previous leaks suggest that the Redmi Note 5A will be priced at around RMB 1,000 (approximately Rs 9,500).
