According to a leaked internal document, the JioPhone could also have in-built a dedicated mapping app.
Reliance Jio announced the JioPhone in July at the AGM of Reliance Industries Ltd. The phone hit headlines in the industry for its impressive features such as voice-based control along with the possibility to view movies on a television by streaming over the Jio network for free. Pre-bookings for the JioPhone went live on August 15, however, specifications of the phone have been sketchy. Now, a new document throws light on some key specifications of the JioPhone, including details on the camera.
As reported by 91Mobiles, the document reveals the design as well as the specifications of the phone. The listing reveals that the phone will sport a 2-megapixel camera at the rear and a VGA snapper on the front for video calling and selfies. Additionally, the phone is also said to come with 4GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.
In terms of design, the phone comes with a polycarbonate body. At the rear, you have the camera module placed on the top left-hand side corner, while the speaker grille is placed right next to it. The phone also has LYF branding at the back.
From what we knew already, the phone is said to feature a 2.4-inch QVWA display and as per reports, it is expected to be powered by Qualcomm or Spreadtrum chipsets. The phone supports microSD card slot, torchlight, FM radio, and has built-in apps such as Jio TV, Jio Cinema, Jio Music and others.
Despite being a feature phone, the JioPhone supports 4G VoLTE, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi and NFC. The document also suggests support for GPS along with a dedicated mapping app. The phone further supports 22 Indian languages and has a panic button for calling emergency services. It is also expected to come with WhatsApp support.
Along with the phone, Reliance Jio is also offering customized data plans for Jio users. The base plan starts at Rs 153 and offers unlimited data and voice calls with a daily cap of 500MB on high speeds. Reliance Jio announced that the JioPhone will be available to customers for free. However, customers will have to pay a refundable deposit of Rs 1,500 at the time of booking. This amount will be refunded after three years, making the device ‘effectively free.’ You can also book the JioPhone through offline stores on August 24.
